WET RAW LATE MAY SUNDAY

WET RAW LATE MAY SUNDAY – Good morning everyone and welcome to early November. We have a wet, rainy, and raw day ahead, but we’ll salvage the rest of the holiday tomorrow (somewhat) with some drier and slightly warmer weather. Eyes continue on the Gulf coast for Subtropical Storm Alberto as the situation doesn’t look good in terms of flooding potential.

Heavy rain, a few rumbles of thunder, and gusty ENE winds will continue through the morning today in the NYC area. Expect rain to taper off as we transit into the afternoon, but our highs were already reached today at midnight. Temps will fall into the 50’s by late afternoon and early evening.

For tomorrow, clouds remain but we might see a few peeks of sunshine. We’ll recover into the low 70’s and any remaining ENE winds should subside and become calm and/or variable. Overall, it won’t be a beach day obviously, but not a bad day for traveling or walking around.

On Tuesday, a light north wind will give us that local sinking air phenomena and really help heat things up. Look for mid to upper 80s across the board, with even 80’s down at the shore. Expect low humidity and bright sunshine through the day. Wednesday is looking sunny and pleasant, highs 75-80, then we’ll do mid 70’s for Thursday with more clouds.

Clouds remain for Friday through Sunday as the remnants of Alberto move very slowly into the Ohio Valley and then drift towards the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast. We’re not expecting any rainouts, but look for humid conditions, 75-80, and the chance of a few tropical showers and thunderstorms each day. The best chance for that scattered rain will be on Sunday.

In the long range, that stubborn re-occuring high continues to hold strong, feeding tropical moisture into the south, while allowing back-door/St Lawrence fronts to sink and stall across the area. What this means for us is the continuation of a large array of weather conditions – a few hot days, a few cool days, a few rainy days, and a few dry days; with most of these days having clouds sticking around.

As far as Alberto is concerned, the west/east coast of Florida have lucked out so far in terms of flooding rains. A large swath of rain of off the east coast of Florida and just adding more water to the ocean, while a thin outer band of rain pushes into the west coast. However, where Alberto makes landfall and surrounding areas, are inbox trouble as he moves very slowly and dumps a lot of rain. Look for the panhandle of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and interior parts of southwest Georgia to get a major soaking.
