ACTIVE PATTERN BRINGS WINTRY WEATHER OPPORTUNITIES – Good afternoon everyone. We’re enjoying a pleasant day with light breezes, but changes are afoot and it’ll be rather drastic compared to what we’ve been experiencing for fall so far.
Sunny skies and near normal temps have returned for today, with highs near 50 and a light northwest breeze. Tomorrow, we cool off again as colder air slips down temporarily, highs in the mid to upper 40’s with light winds. Sunday, the light winds continue, but we warm up a bit and bounce back to near 50. Monday is a carbon copy, but then the changes begin to unfold.
On Tuesday, we launch back into the upper 50’s, but it’ll come at an expense as it is front-related. We’ll have the slight chance of some showers early to late afternoon, then the chance of rain increases as a vigorous cold front marches our way. As of this point, it doesn’t look like it fully clears the area until sometime midday to evening Wednesday, so we’re back into the upper 50’s and the chance of rain will linger.
Overnight Wednesday, we drop into the 30’s and don’t recover much for Thursday, with highs only in the low to mid 40’s. We could have some 20’s overnight Thursday, then we go to near 40 next Friday before the real cold stuff rushes in. As of now, next weekend is looking unseasonably cold, with 30’s, possibly low to mid 30’s, as highs. It’s also possible to see low 20’s and teens as lows when the core of this cold air drifts over us.
In the long range, things just get colder and colder, with reinforcing shots of cold air and several possible systems in between. What this means for us, is the increased chance of some wintry precip for our area. That being said, there is no imminent threat and we’ll just have to take it one system at a time as path/timing is everything in the world of early winter storms.
The long and short of it is, winter is coming, and it’ll feel like it unlike our entry into fall.
