ACTIVE STORMY NYC PATTERN CONTINUES ONWARD

ACTIVE STORMY NYC PATTERN CONTINUES ONWARD – Good morning everyone. Once again, the Northeast found itself in the crosshairs of another Nor’easter yesterday, and once again NYC found itself victim to the “heat island” for those who enjoy a good snow storm. Snow came down at a good clip again, but was hard to stick with the mid-March influence. This is why some of our storms of the past deserve some great respect for what they were able to accomplish snow and ice-wise.

Our active pattern continues onward, but not before a brief break. As stated yesterday, today will be windy and cold, with scattered flurries and light showers around as our upper air energy slowly leaves the area. Anything that does pop up, will be courtesy of the sun heating up the atmosphere, so expect everything to fizzle out at or just after sunset; much like the popcorn showers and storms we get in the summer. Highs will be relatively cold and near 40.

Tomorrow, we’ll have gradual clearing, but the wind remains stubborn. Highs will be in the mid 40’s, but it won’t feel like it with wind chills in the 20’s and 30’s. Friday, the wind machine continues, with gusty westerlies in the 20-30mph range as a reinforcing shot of cold air moves over the area; highs near 40 again. Finally we begin to calm down Saturday, with sunny skies, decreasing winds, and highs in the low to mid 40’s. Sunday continues to look like the best day we’ve had in a while, with sunny skies, light winds, and highs near 50.

For the beginning on next week, our eyes turn to yet another system emerging from the Ohio Valley. Once again, it’ll try to redevelop as it nears the coast. At this very moment, it’s path won’t be favorable to bring any signifiant snow to the NYC area. However, it could bring another round of heavy snow to the interior of the Northeast, and maybe a rain, to mix, to wet snow, to rain session down our way for Tuesday/Wednesday.

We’ll be keeping a close on everything and while the pattern remains active, if you pay close attention, the systems are getting slightly further spaced apart. This means the gears of spring are turning even though it may not feel that way right now.
