Another Nasty Day Expected in NYC
05/16/24 10:32am
Good morning everyone. We have another November-like day in the Northeast and New England as low pressure meanders for another 18-20 hours or so before slowly pulling away. Unseasonably cool weather, clouds, and showers have gripped much of the area, but things are looking promising tomorrow and the weekend forecast has improved somewhat.
Meanwhile back in Texas, we are watching more torrential rain and flooding associated with yet another complex of heavy showers and thunderstorms. While heavy rain has been the focus of this latest batch, we’ve also seen isolated instances of severe weather, and we expect that risk to grow as the day wears on. Look for heavy showers and thunderstorms to continue in central and eastern Oklahoma, as well as central and Northeast Texas.
Eventually, that complex will get stronger as it treks east/southeast, and we will see embedded severe weather in parts of eastern Texas, possibly down to the Gulf Coast, and into Louisiana. Aside from torrential rain and flooding, some individual cells within this batch will be capable of large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.
It doesn’t end there though, as more energy lags behind this large area of rain and rumbles. Look for energy coming out of New Mexico, to cause issues for the panhandle and parts of central Texas in the afternoon and evening. Cities such as Lubbock and Abilene, could see some severe weather and very nasty conditions. While we don’t expect this line to survive the trip all the way across the state and into Louisiana, we could see a line of storms that stretches 100-200 miles; capable of very large hail and tornadic activity.
Tomorrow we shift our attention to some of the Gulf States for the risk of strong to severe thunderstorms. Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
