BEAUTIFUL NYC WEDNESDAY RAIN AHEAD FRIDAY
BEAUTIFUL NYC WEDNESDAY RAIN AHEAD FRIDAY – Good late morning everyone! Today is a beautiful day considering the last few days we’ve had. Sun has broken out across the entire area and a northerly breeze will keep things feeling cool, but we’ll still see highs 55-60. These are the building blocks and signs of spring, especially when systems pass and it still remains in the 50’s instead of cold blasts. Tomorrow will also be a beautiful day, with some sun, but slightly cooler as another system begins it’s approach.
For Friday, we have a pretty robust system entering the picture. Low pressure will head into the Great Lakes area as another wave gets going just south of our area. While this doesn’t affect us in the immediate NYC area, this could pull some colder air down for areas well north of us, giving areas upstates a mix of rain and wet snow, and a pretty good round of wet snow in higher elevations. For us though, rain will be the flavor of the day and it will be a steady cool rain with highs in the upper 40’s to low 50’s. Don’t be surprised if we see some localized flooding in poor drainage areas, especially since the ground is already saturated from yesterday’s rain and thunderstorms.
Clouds and rain continue on for Friday night and into Saturday morning. Then, we’ll have some partial clearing Saturday afternoon and highs in the low 50’s. The sun returns for Sunday and it will be temporary as another system will approach the area early next week, so enjoy the day and more mid 50’s. Monday morning will be sunny, then clouds will increase towards evening, with more mid to upper 50’s. Rain returns for Tuesday, but we’ll have more on that as we get closer to that time.
In the long range, the gears continue to turn for a possible spring breakout mid-April after this parade of systems. Heat is building in the Midwest and cool shots are modifying very quickly. When the warmer air does eventually make it our way, the only issue will be the immediate coast, with much cooler temps and a seabreeze due to cold ocean temps. That being said, drive several miles inland, and you’ll find the warm air you’re looking for once the warmer air does move in. We’ll see how it all plays out, but I won’t be shocked to see 60’s and 70’s in the NYC area come mid April. A pattern change is in the works, we just have to be patient as it plays out.
