BRIEF MILD HIT PRECEDES NYC RAINY COOL REALITY – Good morning everyone! Mild air has arrived on schedule and it will also be short-lived as expected also. Our transition to true spring in the NYC area is rarely a “clean” enterprise, and once again Mother Nature has proven that true.

Expect clouds and sun today, the slight chance of a shower, and highs in the low 60’s away from the coast, mid to upper 50’s along the shore. Tomorrow will be the warmest day of this taste of spring, with morning clouds, PM sun, and a gusty south wind. Areas away from the water will see mid to upper 70’s, possibly even at or just past 80 in areas shielded by that wind, such as downtown Brooklyn and central areas of Queens. Along the shore will be a different reality with winds whipping off of that cold ocean water. Highs tomorrow along/near the shore will range from the upper 50’s to possibly mid 60’s before that wind cranks up.

On Saturday, we cool off slightly with highs 70-75 in the warmer spots, and same story for the shoreline. Look for upper 50’s to mid 60’s in areas influenced by the below average ocean temps.

Everything collapses on Sunday as a back door front is met with an approaching cold front. To complicate things more, a wave of low pressure will ride up along the approaching front to enhance our rain. Look for cloudy skies, cool temps, and some light rain in the area for Sunday, with highs in the mid 40’s to near 50.

Sunday night and Monday will be the heaviest stuff, with rain, heavy at times, and localized flooding possible in poor drainage areas. Highs Monday will be 50-55 and rain could possibly stick around till Monday night. After everything passes, cool air sticks around all week next week, while we slowly try to climb back to normal at the end of the week.
