CLOUDS BEGIN NYC RETURN WITH LIGHT PRECIP POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT AND TOMORROW
Good afternoon everyone. Skies are still sunny for the most part, but if you look west, a thin veil of clouds are gathering, marking the approach of a weak system and a brief reinforcing shot of cool air. Meanwhile, a repeat performance is in the works for late week rain-wise, and system paths remain hostile towards any moderate to significant snow events.
Sun will give way to clouds as the evening approaches. This is ahead of a very weak system heading our way, which should spread light rain and snow across a compact area. Most of the action will be well to our north and west, where a coating to 2 inches of snow will be possible upstate, NW NJ, and NE PA. I’m thinking 2 will be pretty much the most we can squeeze out of this, we’ll just have to wait and see the final setup.
For us, any light rain that we do get after midnight could mix with or change to very light snow for a brief period before changing back to rain as it ends. Little to no accumulation is expected. In fact, with temps in the mid 40’s and the sun coming out tomorrow, don’t expect even a dusting on grassy surfaces to last; so take a picture quickly if you see any flakes on the ground (if any at at all).
Christmas Day looks sunny and breezy, highs in the upper 30’s to low 40’s. As we head on, Wednesday and Thursday look near normal temp wise, but then we cloud up late Thursday as our next system approaches.
We’ll be in the warm sector again on this one, so expect another rainy one, with 1″+ of rain possible. After we clear out next weekend, cool air returns and we start the process over again.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
I’ll continue to watch New Years Eve as a system continues to linger at or around that day. It does’t mean anything yet, it just bears watching.
