COASTAL FLOOD WARNINGS REMAIN MIDWEEK ROUND TWO POSSIBLE
COASTAL FLOOD WARNINGS REMAIN MIDWEEK ROUND TWO POSSIBLE
COASTAL FLOOD WARNINGS REMAIN MIDWEEK ROUND TWO POSSIBLE – Good morning everyone. After an interesting day yesterday in which we got thrown everything but the kitchen sink at us, coastal flood warnings remain for parts of the area and our eyes turn to mid-week once we get past our highest tide this morning.
Look for a windy day, with partial clearing and highs in the mid 40’s. Between 8-11am, coastal sections, especially around Long Island, will see their highest storm tide with this system. Temporary road closures will be possible in low lying areas, such as Long Beach Road, Nassau Expressway, Meadowbrook Pkwy, and Wantagh Pkwy. Secondary road south of Merrick Road in Freeport, Watagh, Seaford, Lindenhurst, Freeport, and other low lying areas, will also see some inundation.
Sun returns for tomorrow and Monday, but with a stiff north wind, we’ll remain in the normal realm as far as high temps. In fact, seasonably cool mid 40’s look to be with us for the next 5-10 days. Because of this cool air in place, we’ll have to keep a close eye on the next approaching system. As of this moment, the path of our next one is looking similar to our storm departing today. However, there are differences.
Our next one will be a quick mover and IF low pressure forms off of the coast, it will also be more compact and less far-reaching. In terms of timing, we’re looking at a late night Tuesday/early Wednesday start with front-related rain. Then in similar fashion, it may transfer its energy to the coast sometime Wednesday or Wednesday evening, enhancing the precip and wind. Depending on if this transfer occurs and where, we may have enough cold air in place to change rain over to frozen precip, and give the NYC metro area a period of moderate to heavy wet snow.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on this active pattern as seasonably cool temps continue on into the 2nd quarter of March.
