Coastal Storm Brings Wide Array of Weather Conditions

Coastal Storm Brings Wide Array of Weather Conditions

Good morning everyone. We have a sunny start to our weekend, but things quickly go downhill tomorrow as our developing coastal storms rows up the coast after lashing Florida and the Southeast. We’ll be watching our system very closely, but it should be similar to last week’s in regards to wind, rain, and flooding; but we’ll add a little more coastal flooding to the component as this is a different type of system.

First we’ll be watching Florida as our Gulf low forms and connects with energy that came out of the Rockies. Expect flooding rains, strong winds, and severe weather across Florida later today into tonight. Some of these storms could contain tornadoes and large hail. Next up will be the rest of the Southeast and mid-Atlantic overnight tonight into tomorrow as that shield of lighter rain begins to nip at the Northeast. More flooding rain is expected in GA, SC, and NC, while storm-force winds are possible near the Outer Banks of NC.

For the Northeast, I feel the focus of the rain flooding with be in parts of NJ, upstate NY, and northeast/central PA. We could still see some flooding in NYC and Long Island, but the small rivers and streams to our northwest will be the biggest issue with the rain we’ve already had. Also, strong winds and soft soil might be a recipe for easily downed trees and power outages. Meanwhile along the immediate shore and Forks of Long Island, we could see some wind gusts of 45-60mph (stronger as you go east).
