High Wind Warnings Posted for Parts of New York City

Good morning everyone. Our powerful storm is starting to chug up the East Coast, bringing with it heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds to coastal Georgia and South Carolina; then eventually into North Carolina and the Northeast.

As our Nor’easter deepens, winds will become even more powerful; strong enough to the point at which High Wind Warnings were needed for parts of New York City, Long Island, and coastal parts of New England. Winds along the immediate shore could gust 45-60+mph, especially the further east you go. Even more impressive, Hurricane Force winds are possible well offshore, causing a major hazard to shipping lanes.

Flooding rain and strong winds are expected to taper off late Monday into Monday night from southwest to northeast, but lingering moisture on Tuesday could set off a few scattered showers or even some wet snowflakes here and there.

Your local forecast is below –

SATELLITE

storm free

Scattered light rain has already touched parts of Long Island, but in general, we’ll have light rain developing across the area between late morning and mid afternoon. Rain and wind will increase in intensity as we get into he evening and overnight hours. Coastal Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island could see 45-60+ mph wind gusts, with the strongest gusts likely on the Forks of Long Island. We also expect some flooding in poor drainage areas, but the biggest risk of flooding will be NW NJ and parts of the lower Hudson Valley in NY. Highs today in the mid 50’s.

WEATHER RADAR

Expect more rain and wind tomorrow, with things beginning to taper off later in the day to light rain and a stiff breeze switching directions. Highs 55-60 will happen early, then we drop as our Nor’Easter begins to pull away.

Around the backside of our low pressure, a small wave of energy may ride around into the Northeast and take advantage of cold air aloft. Sunshine will provide the fuel, and we could see some scattered light showers and/or wet snowflakes on Tuesday. Highs in the near 40/low 40 range.

Expect sunshine and seasonably chilly conditions both Wednesday and Thursday, with highs in the mid 40’s.
