Departing Storm Leaves Behind Lagging Flooding Issues
Good morning everyone. Our storm is beginning to wrap things up in the Northeast as New England is now experience the full force of our major storm that’s brought havoc up and down the east coast. Among the notable events, was serious storm surge flooding experienced in Charleston, SC, and a confirmed tornado(s) on the ground in the Myrtle Beach, SC area that brought with it extensive damage. We’ve also seen 60+ mph gusts on some of the barrier islands of the Outer Banks of NC, and now we are seeing those strong winds push into Long Island and coastal New England.
This was and is a tough one as previously forecasted. Everything is and has unfolded as expected, but we should see things wind down across the entire East Coast by late evening. Left behind will still be some coastal flooding issues with enhanced tides, plus rivers and streams that’ll crest over the next few days. This will be a big issue in areas such as NE PA, NW NJ, the Hudson Valley in NY, and interior parts of New England. We’ll also have to deal with some heavy lake effect snow overnight and tomorrow morning along the NY and PA lake shores as winds whip around and blow across the relatively warm lakes.
After this, we have a fairly quiet 5-7 days, and no major storms are expected in the short and medium range. Your local forecast is below –
SATELLITE
For today, we still have some rain and wind to contend with even though we will see some brief blue skies. Expect rain to return, then taper off again with partial clearing late. High temps are where they’re at right now, with near 60 temps plunging into the 40’s as time goes on. It’ll be a chilly one tonight with lows in the 30’s and blustery conditions.
WEATHER RADAR
We’ll have sun and clouds tomorrow with cold temps in the mid to upper 30’s. I wouldn’t rule out a stray shower or flurry just in case one of those lake effect squalls makes it to or near the area.
Temps modify on Wednesday and Thursday, with 40-45 degree days, full sunshine, and light winds. Friday is more of the same, but we cool off a tad with more widespread low 40’s.
So far for your weekend, we might see a few extra clouds on Saturday with the slight chance of a sprinkle or flurry; but Christmas Eve Day is looking sunny and dry with upper 30’s to low 40’s.
