EVENING NYC LONG ISLAND NOREASTER DISCUSSION
EVENING NYC LONG ISLAND NOREASTER DISCUSSION
EVENING NYC LONG ISLAND NOREASTER DISCUSSION – Hello everyone, I’m back with a short update on what’s going on across New York City and Long Island in regards to our 3rd Nor’easter in under 2 weeks. Everything remains on schedule and we should see some snow coming in late tonight, but not before some light rain and mixing first. For a complete timeline and what to expect as far as impacts, click here.
The radar is starting to get busy and if you’ve been outside, especially near the coast, a stiff east/northeast breeze has developed. Expect these winds to continue to pick up, peaking late overnight tonight before sunrise tomorrow, and into the early afternoon. Again, regardless of how much snow we get or don’t get, power outages and more downed trees will be the primary concern as we are weakened vastly from the last two systems.
Meet the new map, same as the old map…
As far as the models are concerned, I can’t speak for others, but model watching for me has come to an end. Everything I’m seeing now as far as structure and radar has me very happy in regards to my forecast for the past few days. For this reason, the snow map remains unchanged.
Several factors will go into how we wind up on the spectrum as far as accumulations – a) How long it takes to stick b) Melting c) how heavy the precip gets. All of these factors are intertwined with each other and this is the best number I can come up with if you factor all three in.
So now we sit back and wait to see what happens. I still believe Blizzard Warnings for eastern Suffolk are possible, but we’ll have to wait and see if the wind and visibility can meet the threshold. It’s going to be close. For now, Blizzard Warnings remain confined to southeast New England.
This will be my last official report for tonight. Make sure you check out Angry Ben’s Angry Weather on Facebook for live updates, and please be safe when traveling tomorrow morning/clearing snow.
