FIRST SNOW OPPORTUNITY DURING PATTERN CHANGE FLUX

FIRST SNOW OPPORTUNITY DURING PATTERN CHANGE FLUX – Good morning everyone. Our step towards a pattern change continues to grind away; and as I said last week, watch for systems that pass by, timed with colder air, and energy leftover behind if we were going to see any chances of snow during this period.

As Joe and I have been saying for some time, what we’re experiencing isn’t a true thaw, but more like a “thaw”, a return to normal after what we experienced. Look for sunny skies, a brisk breeze, and highs in the low to mid 30’s today. Tomorrow, winds calm down and we should experience mid to upper 30’s, possibly 40.

Sunny skies continue Saturday, with increasing clouds late. Highs in the low 50’s with the help of an approaching system. Front-related “warmth” continues on Sunday with highs near 50, but it’ll come at the cost of another rainy day; much like we had this past week.

Now this is where things get complicated and we play the wait and see game again. As this system passes by, colder air moves in. This is NOT the arctic air predicted for the first week of February, but it’s cold enough to produce snow IF the timing is right in conjunction with a possible wave.

What we’re looking at is for our departing  system to stall in the southeast, then a wave possibly developing along the Gulf; then we wait to see if:

a) It slips off the southeast coast or it heads up the coast.

b) Timing in conjunction with colder air.

There are a lot of “IFs” and if it does develop, and if it does ride up the coast, if it moves up too soon, we could see rain changing to snow at the very end. This is one of those things that bear close watching, and we’re not even close to talk about snow amounts yet, because we might not see anything at all.

The opportunity is there though, and we haven’t had one in a couple of weeks. So stay tuned as we watch this and our long trek back into a more active and colder pattern.
