Gloomy NYC Weekend Before Textbook Spring Workweek

Gloomy NYC Weekend Before Textbook Spring Workweek

05/3/24 9:53am ET

Good morning everyone. Our thunderstorm watch continues as we still see heavy thunderstorms impact the Gulf Coast of eastern Texas and Louisiana. Flooding rains and heavy rumbles continue to plague the area, with heavy storms everywhere but Houston proper, into Beaumont, and Lake Charles. We expect this to rage on this morning as everything slowly grows out and drifts east/southeast into the Gulf of Mexico.

Another trouble spot severe weather-wise will pop up again tonight in Kansas, Nebraska, and maybe even extreme eastern Colorado as more energy exits the Rockies. Look for the typical innocuous start, with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing late evening in the area; then organizing and growing out into a powerful line of severe thunderstorms.

The biggest risk with these storms will be large hail, damaging straight-line winds, frequent lighting, and torrential rain. However, we will caution at the prospect of isolated strong tornadoes as well. This is the trend we’ve been seeing with any of these storms that wind up not being in a tornado watch box. They are still producing tornadoes, so don’t let your guard down. The timeline on this area of severe weather looks to be an innocent start late afternoon/early evening today, then really ramping up some time between 9pm and 11pm, and blowing itself out into eastern Kansas, northwest Missouri, and Iowa in the morning.

Please stay tuned to your local agencies for the latest watches and warnings. Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –

WEATHER RADAR

The weekend is a mixed deal and a cool one at that. We’ll have AM sun & clouds tomorrow, then clouding up and the chance of some late widely scattered showers. Highs in the near 60/low 60 range. Look for on & off showers on Sunday with a raw feel. Highs 55-60 at best.

The workweek looks like a winner in between showers. We’ll start off dry Monday and Tuesday with mid 70’s, then a chance of showers Wednesday with more mid 70’s. We’re looking at the models, and 70’s may continue through Friday for a very nice spring workweek regardless of any showers.
