Warm Day Today in NYC After Fog & Clouds Lift
05/2/24 9:48am ET
Good morning everyone. We saw more intense thunderstorms yesterday and last night in the Midwest. This time, development was further to the west as expected, and we have multiple reports of tornadic activity and even baseball-sized hail.
Just like yesterday, this morning’s activity is in the form of heavy thunderstorms left over from last night’s action, as everything began to break off into pieces and chug to the east. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are essentially in 2 large complexes at the moment. The first one is in Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, and heading into Wisconsin & Illinois. While we don’t see any severe weather watches or warnings at the moment, be advised that isolated severe weather and flash flooding could still occur.
The second complex is a little bit on the heavier side, with flood watches posted throughout parts of east Texas and Louisiana. This complex is knocking on Lake Charles’ door, and is trying to grow out near Houston. Expect heavy thunderstorms, with locally strong to severe weather, and flash flooding possible due to the slow movement of this system.
Things will fizzle out into thundershowers as the day wears on, but a new severe weather risk will emerge tomorrow night into Saturday. We’ll see that action once again start off small in parts of western Nebraska and Kansas, then grow out into a formidable line from Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. Look for a daisy-chain line of severe weather, capable of large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes. The time frame on this action looks to be some time between 9-10pm tomorrow night, into early afternoon Saturday. After that, we’ll watch energy morph into a new line in parts of Texas and Louisiana for late afternoon Saturday.
Stay tuned tomorrow for more coverage on our next severe weather prospects. Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Morning clouds and fog will give way to a mix of sun & clouds. The lack of sunshine has held us down a bit, but we should still see some low 80’s away from the coast. We cool down in a big way tomorrow under sunny skies. Highs tomorrow in the mid 60’s.
