NYC Gloomy Weekend Moving In
05/04/24 11:12am ET
Good morning everyone. Clouds are draped up and down the East Coast as gloomy conditions are set to move into the Northeast for the second part of the weekend. We also continue to watch heavy rain and thunderstorms marching across the Southeast, specifically Georgia and South Carolina. While no organized severe weather is expected with this batch, we could see a few isolated instances of storms nearing severe limits.
Our main story remains focused on the severe weather risk in the lower Midwest as leftover moisture is set to explode this evening in parts of Texas. We already have some showers and storms in areas of Oklahoma and a few dotting Texas, but things will begin to grow out and organize by late afternoon/evening tonight. Places such as San Antonio and Austin could be in the crosshairs for some severe thunderstorm action, with large hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, and isolated strong tornadoes.
The timeline on this action is some time between 4 and 8pm, then growing out into a multi-directional line/cluster tonight and into the early morning hours. Things should fizzle out by tomorrow morning into the typical heavy showers and storms we’ve been seeing each day.
We’re also watching a massive storm set to slam into the West Coast, bringing with it, heavy rain, strong winds, and heavy May snows. In some areas of the Cascades, Sierra, and Rockies, and we could see 2-4 feet of fresh powder. This is also a concern for the workweek in regards to bringing enough fuel to the Midwest for a widespread severe weather outbreak.
