NYC Gloomy Weather Settles In

NYC Gloomy Weather Settles In

05/05/24 11:00am ET

Good morning everyone. Gloom has settled into the Northeast and we’re expecting a very raw day in the region as our maritime influence hits back pretty hard. Look for scattered showers throughout the period, but at least we have some milder air (perhaps warm), moving in for the workweek.

As expected, severe weather has fizzled out into flooding rains and heavy rumbles in parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Kansas, and Arkansas. Look for copious amounts of rain as thunderstorms meander through these areas before dissipating overnight tonight.

Our severe weather risk shifts into parts of Wyoming and South Dakota tonight with our West Coast system moving out of the mountain ranges. Those small clusters will die out, then reform as a pretty formidable line of severe weather tomorrow from South Dakota, Nebraska, and Kansas, down into Oklahoma. Expect another round of tornadic storms, capable of large hail and damaging winds. The timeline on this action looks to be from late afternoon tomorrow, into the nighttime hours as action spreads into Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, and Arkansas as well. We may also see severe storms nip parts of Illinois Tuesday morning if the line is able to hold itself together.

For today, clouds are already in with rain in the interior Northeast. Look for showers to creep into the NYC area, with raw highs in the 50-55 range.

WEATHER RADAR

Things improve tomorrow temp wise, but clouds stick around. It’ll be much milder with highs in the mid 70’s. Sunshine returns for 1 day only on Tuesday, with highs 75-80.

Clouds are back for Wednesday, but we could see 1 more warm day out of it. NWS is calling for low 80’s, but I’m going to go with mid 70’s to near 80 depending on the cloud cover. Things cool off Thursday with clouds and some scattered showers, highs 65-70. Mid 60’s are likely Friday with more clouds and the chance of some scattered showers.
