NYC Mild Warm First Half of Workweek

NYC Mild Warm First Half of Workweek

05/06/24 8:07am ET

Good morning everyone. The Northeast is experiencing “textbook” spring weather for the area, and the rest of the week and weekend looks to follow suit. When we say “textbook” for the Northeast, we’re not talking flowers, sunshine, and 75 degrees every day. The region typically experiences a lot of clouds and wild swings in temperatures, and we will see a continuation of this until the pattern settles down a bit.

We’re also watching yesterday’s action head east and into Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee in the form of some showers and heavy thundershowers, but no severe weather is ongoing at the moment. Things will change drastically this evening as we are expecting another severe weather outbreak in the Midwest. Light showers from North Dakota down into Kansas, will eventually provide enough fuel once the sunshine starts working the region.

By later this afternoon or evening, we’ll be watching clusters of thunderstorms form into a powerful, multi-direction line that will race east, northeast, and southeast from central South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma; into Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, northwest Arkansas and Illinois. These storms will be capable of very large hail, possibly the size of baseballs/softballs, torrential rain, frequent lightning, and strong tornadoes.

The timeline of this action looks to be between this evening, into the overnight hours, and into the morning hours from west to east. Please stay tuned to your local agencies for the latest warnings and watches, and be prepared to take action in order to protect life and property.

Look for AM fog this morning, then mostly cloudy skies throughout the day. Clouds will hamper temps making it into the upper 70’s, so near 70/low 70 temps it is for the area. AM clouds will give way to some sunshine tomorrow, and it’ll be the best day of the week with 75-80 degree temps.

WEATHER RADAR

Clouds return on Wednesday and we are expecting a warm and muggy one. Look for the chance of some showers and/or storms at any point in the day, and highs will be in the upper 70’s to low 80’s.

Showers stick around Thursday and Friday, with 60-65 degree temps and a raw feel.

So far the weekend is looking a little drier compared to Thursday and Friday, with a mix of sun & clouds Saturday and low 60’s. Mid 60’s are possible Sunday, but clouds return to the scene.
