GORGEOUS NYC HALLOWEEN EXPECTED ACTIVE PERIOD AHEAD

Good morning everyone. Now that we’re past our first Nor’Easter of the season up here in the New York City area, we begin to watch the next set of features popping up. This includes a fantastic/seasonal Halloween ahead, maybe a few rumbles of thunder tonight, and some vigorous systems trekking across the Country.

EASTERN SATELLITE

Yesterday we had the entire gamut of what a Nor’easter usually brings into the area. While rain totals were about 1/2″ off of what we expected for minimums, coastal flooding and wind hit the mark. We also said that clouds would be stubborn today and that looks to be the case for now. Look for a possible few peeks of sun this afternoon, but remaining mostly cloudy, highs in the mid 50’s with a steady west wind.

Late overnight tonight, that disturbance I’ve been talking about sneaks in behind our departing upper-level low from yesterday’s system. It’ll be a quick shot, but we could see a few rumbles of thunder before sunrise tomorrow as this disturbance has some good lift with it. Any rain we do get should be gone an hour or two after sunrise tomorrow, but clearing will be slow to happen; highs in the mid to upper 50’s.

Overnight tomorrow, things will clear out, paving the way for a sunny and seasonably cool Tuesday. Expect light west winds and highs in the mid 50’s. For Halloween on Wednesday, we are looking at the best day of the week. An approaching system will help pump in seasonal air and skies remain mostly clear for the day. Look for bright sunshine, an increasing WSW breeze, and highs in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.

Depending on the timing of our next system, Thursday has the potential to be slightly to moderately above normal. Look for increasing clouds and the slight chance of showers late in the day as our system sets up to the west of us; and energy goes well to our north. Highs will be in the low to mid 60’s, but if things hold off and we see some extra peeks of sun, we could see 65-70 degree temps.

As of now, the best chance of rain will be Thursday night. Then we’ll have some scattered morning rain on Friday and highs in the upper 50’s to near 60 before we drop again. Your next weekend at this moment is looking iffy. Nothing terrible, but clouds may be stubborn as spokes of energy come through behind Friday’s departing system. This would equate to a cloudy weekend, highs in the mid to upper 50’s, and the slight chance of showers each day.

In the long range, we’ll be bringing fairly vigorous systems into our area every 4-7 days as activity begins to ramp up. The gulf remains open energy-wise, but system path may change our cool pattern as of late; and into a mix between cool, then warm air ahead of any approaching system, then back to cool again. This would be a more typical pattern for early November compared to this prolonged cool we’ve had for a few weeks.
