NASTY NYC NOREASTER POUNDS COASTLINE FLOODING EXPECTED

NASTY NYC NOREASTER POUNDS COASTLINE FLOODING EXPECTED

Good morning everyone. Our long-expected Nor’easter is now upon us, giving NYC and the rest of the area the usual Six Demon Bag that comes along with one.

EASTERN SATELLITE

storm free

It is a quick mover in terms of the heaviest of rain, but winds and flooding high tides will continue throughout the day. At this moment, we are pretty much at peak wind, where some places are seeing 25-35mph sustained winds out of the east, and gusts approaching 50mph.

At the shore, 8-12ft waves are pounding and eroding the beaches, while that strong easterly fetch is about to cause some flooding problems in low lying areas. Our first high tide cycle is coming up over the course of the next 1-3hrs, so for those in flood-prone areas when we do get systems like this; take action to protect property if you haven’t already. Areas such as Rockaway, Broad Channel, Gerritsen, Long Beach, Freeport, Baldwin, Seaford, Wantagh, Bellmore, Merrick, Bayshore, Lindenhurst, and points-east will some moderate flooding in areas. We’ll have one more chance at moderate flooding during the afternoon’s high tide cycle, then things will begin to settle down; with minor flooding possible for 2 more cycles afterwards.

This is not a life threatening surge, but it’ll ruin your cars and other property if they are not moved away from notoriously prone flood areas.

REGIONAL RADAR

After we get through the heaviest of rain, clouds and showers will stick around, as well as a stiff wind. Look for rain to linger to or just after midnight tonight, then we’ll have some slow clearing. Depending on how fast we get things moving, we’ll have more clouds than sun tomorrow and highs in the low to mid 50’s. We could see a few upper 50’s IF we get some extra sun.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

storm free

Overnight tomorrow, another small disturbance sneaks in around the departing low pressure like the spoke of a wheel. Look for a quick shot of rain sometime after midnight tomorrow, then it should be long gone by mid-morning or even earlier on Monday. Expect variable clouds after showers depart on Monday and highs in the mid 50’s. Same thing goes for Monday, if we can squeeze out some extra sun, look for a few upper 50’s popping up.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
storm free

Tuesday and Halloween on Wednesday are looking like the best two days of the week; with sunny skies and mid 50’s on Tuesday, then slightly warmer than previously expected for Halloween. As of now we’ll have sunny skies and near-normal temps on Wednesday, with highs 55 to near 60.

After that, we reset the trigger and watch for a multitude of potential systems as an active period we’ve been expecting, begins.
