HEAVY SNOW ACCUMULATIONS REMAIN AWAY FROM NYC
Good morning everyone. We continue to watch our coastal storm evolve and do what coastal storms do best regardless of the season – and that is heavy precipitation, strong winds, coastal flooding, and beach erosion. We’re expecting the whole gamut here, with heavy rain, heavy snow, mixed precip, strong wind gusts, and big surf.
The heaviest snow will remain N&W of the NYC area, but we still can’t rule out a snowy end for NYC and Long Island. That being said, anything that does fall will be on the light side accumulation-wise, if anything at all. It’s a different story for interior parts of the Northeast and lower New England, where a wide swath of 6-12″ of snow is expected. Look for a few “lollipop” amounts that extend beyond the 12″ range, mostly in higher elevations and where banding occurs.
Our system is gone by Monday, replaced with sunshine, then quickly increasing clouds on Tuesday for our next system. We’re looking at a very active period brewing, with at least 4 systems expected to transit the East Coast over the next 14 days or so. Some of those systems could bring severe weather to the Gulf States as well as the Southeast.
You local forecast is below –
SATELLITE
Look for light rain or light mix to develop over the next few hours. In some areas, things may start off as tiny wet flakes or graupel. Any mixing turns to all rain overnight, heavy at times and becoming windy. Wind gusts may exceed 45mph along the immediate shore.
Rain possibly changes to snow tomorrow before ending. As of now, we’re going to hold accumulations to 0-2″ in parts of NYC and the North Shore of Long Island. Anything that does fall and accumulate, will most likely be on grass, branches, and colder surfaces. We’ll start off in the mid 30’s, then drop as the day wears on. Look out for icing overnight tomorrow as any wet surfaces are likely to freeze.
WEATHER RADAR
Monday is nice and breezy, with sunshine and highs in the low 40’s. Temps rise into the near 50 mark on Tuesday ahead of that next system, with rain and wind developing.
