Hot Friday in New York City on Schedule
06/10/24 9:41am ET
Good morning everyone. We have a lot going on in weather-related news across the Upper Midwest with a new batch of severe weather, and Florida as we continue to watch for the prospect of a tropical wave or several waves. Where we have nothing going on, is the Northeast, where sunny & dry weather takes hold. While we do have a hot day in store for the NYC Metro Area on Friday, that’s really the only weather feature to speak of up there.
Severe weather is expected to bloom in the Upper Midwest this afternoon and evening as a new wave of low pressure emerges from the mountain ranges. North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska look like the main focus for more organized storms, but we could see isolated severe storms dot the region all the way down into Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. Most of the action is daytime-heating-related, and should fizzle out into lighter thundershowers by morning; so we’re not looking for a tremendous, long-lasting line. However, the storms that do form will be capable of very large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes.
Florida and the Gulf Coast remain the “star” feature of this forecast. A front slowly draping down across the Southeast as we speak, will begin to interact with tropical moisture that has been locked in across the upper Caribbean. That front will help draw everything up and we’re already seeing some widely scattered tropical showers and storms across parts of Florida.
While this action may seem “typical” and part of the “rainy season”, this is not related to the average late spring/summer climate across Florida, and different mechanics are in play. Expect tropical showers and storms to grow more numerous, with the heaviest rain and storms expected sometime between Friday and Sunday. We remained concerned for the Gulf Coast as well as it seems as if low pressure will try and organize off of the west coast of Florida.
Again, we don’t know for sure yet if our tropical disturbance organizes into a tropical depression or more, but at minimum we are looking at copious amounts of rain in areas that need it; but too much, too soon may cause a lot of headaches in terms of widespread flash flooding.
Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Sunshine and near 80 temps dominate the scene today and tomorrow. Temps begin to creep up on Wednesday as humidity begins to increase as well. We remain sunny with highs in the low to mid 80’s.

Things begin to steam up on Thursday with even more humid conditions and highs 85-90. Friday will be the hot one, with near 90/low 90 temps and soupy air. We’ll also have the chance of some scattered strong storms in the evening as a cold front goes by.
