NYC Hot & Humid Weather Creeps in Late Workweek

NYC Hot & Humid Weather Creeps in Late Workweek

06/08/24 10:57am ET

Good morning everyone. We have a really nice day in the Northeast before some extra clouds and some scattered showers return tomorrow. However, that’ll pave the way for a very nice workweek until late in the week. That’s because we are watching that tropical moisture building up in the upper Caribbean, and a stalled out front that’ll help bring it up into Florida and the Gulf of Mexico. The moisture looks to stay away from the Northeast, but the air itself is expected to stream up the East Coast and make things steamy 5-6 days from now.

On the moisture side, we are looking for copious amounts of rain across parts of Florida late next week into into possibly next weekend. We still don’t know for sure whether or not we will see further development into a tropical storm or depression; but at minimum, a tropical wave and/or waves will send a series of monsoon-like heavy showers & storms into Florida, the Southeast, and possibly along the Gulf Coast. For the “naysayers” though talking about El Niño, La Niña, Shear, Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, or whatever is being used to downplay or dismiss tropical activity, this is happening and you can see the ingredients building as we speak.

We also have continuing issues in the Midwest in regards to severe weather. The scale is smaller for now, but we still see severe weather develop in eastern Colorado this afternoon and into the evening, then march across parts of Kansas. Look for very large hail, frequent lightning, torrential rain, damaging winds, and the chance of isolated tornadoes.

Here is your local NYC Metro forecast –

SATELLITE

storm free

Look for mostly sunny skies today and near 80 temps for a perfect early June Saturday. A mix of sun and clouds enters the picture tomorrow as low pressure passes by to the north. We’ll have the slight chance of a few showers with highs near 80 again.

WEATHER RADAR

Sunny and dry conditions rule Monday and Tuesday with near 80 temps again, then the humidity bumps up a bit Wednesday with highs in the low 80’s.

storm free

Thursday and Friday look steamy, with upper 80’s to near 90 Thursday; then near 90/low 90 temps Friday and oppressive humidity. We could see our first air quality alerts late week as “dead” air settles over the City courtesy of the tropics.
