Hurricane Beryl’s Remnants Touch Off Severe Weather Today

07/10/24 11:19am ET

Good morning everyone. We have another sticky day in the Northeast today with very warm/hot & humid conditions. Also in the cards, are the remnants of Hurricane Beryl heading into the Great Lakes with a tail of vigorous energy that’ll rake across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. This will help touch off a very strong line of severe weather in the late afternoon, evening, and overnight hours.

As this energy rams into the hot & humid air and instability caused by the sun working the atmosphere, we can expect widespread severe weather from New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and possibly down into North Carolina. Look for the likelihood of damaging winds, frequent lightning, large hail, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes. Best chance to see severe weather will be western/central New York, central Pennsylvania, Maryland, central Virginia, and north central North Carolina.

Due to timing and late arrival at the coast, we are unsure at this time if storms will survive the trip to areas such as New York City, Long Island, or the Jersey Shore. At minimum, look for dissipating storms to drop some scattered heavy rain and a few rumbles of thunder.

Look for a mix of sun & clouds today, with very warm/hot conditions. Highs will be in the upper 80’s to near 90, then we’ll keep an eye to the sky for late or overnight heavy showers & rumbles. If the storms can hold together, we could see some embedded severe weather.

WEATHER RADAR

We’ll have more of the same tomorrow with the chance of PM storms and highs in the upper 80’s to near 90. These won’t be driven as much from Beryl’s remnants, so they’ll be. more of the popcorn variety of storms.

Expect more PM showers and storms on Friday, and these might be a little more widespread. Friday sinks to the mid 80’s, but we remain very juicy humidity-wise.

Saturday looks like a clone of Friday, but we could see a return of upper 80’s to near 90 temps. On Sunday, a new heatwave unfolds and we could see very hot temps possibly through next Friday. Highs Sunday are expected to be in the low to mid 90’s; then mid to upper 90’s Monday.
