LARGE SYSTEM BRINGS NYC WEEKEND COOL SHOT

Good morning everyone. The gloom is back in the NYC area and we will be in the clouds until early morning tomorrow. This system will also help usher in some cooler air, with a reinforcing cool shot Sunday, splitting the weekend in two weather-wise.

EASTERN SATELLITE

We had once nice batch of rain this morning, with another nice batch well to our west. Now we sit in between with cloudy skies and the chance of scattered showers at any time throughout the day before another round of steady rain. We’ll also have the chance of some thunder mixed between late afternoon and before midnight as that cold front nears. Look for low to mid 60’s as highs.

Everything should be gone before sunrise tomorrow and we’ll have some partial clearing throughout the day. Expect clouds and sun, windy and cool, highs in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.

A compact area of low pressure will swing by on Sunday, representing a reinforcing shot of cool air. This one has some cold air mixed in with it, and areas well north of us could see some snow in the high elevations. It’s in and out quickly though, so for us it’ll be a quick shot at some showers and cool again. Highs Sunday may not crack 60.

We start next week on the seasonably cool side, with low 60’s on Monday, then we’ll creep back towards normal. Weak, fast-moving systems will continue to sag across our area and move in and out; keeping clouds and the threat of showers. A cool day or mild day will depend on what side of these fronts we find ourselves on during any given time.

This is a difficult time of year forecast-wise when we are in flux like this with the pattern. More rain is possible overnight Monday, then maybe some clearing Tuesday as we might bounce back into the mid 60’s. Then, more light rain is possible on Wednesday and Thursday, but these systems all look weak and we have to take it day-to-day.

Another system is possible for Friday, then next Saturday could be a decent one IF that system doesn’t get hung up or a wave doesn’t form along it. Then Sunday is up in the air depending on that wave or not.

See where I’m getting? It’s a volatile pattern but in a weak way, and sometimes weak is worse because it can’t get out of its own way.
