LIGHT NYC SNOW EXPECTED

LIGHT NYC SNOW EXPECTED – Good morning everyone and happy Monday……Yesterday, I discussed that today’s system will dictate how the next one goes, since room in the atmosphere is limited. Well, today’s system will be very weak, making some room for tomorrow’s. Today, we’ll have some cloudy skies in the morning, with a chance of some flurries and/or very light snow through early afternoon as today’s clipper system brushes us from the south; breezy, with highs in the mid 30’s.

LIGHT NYC SNOW EXPECTED

For tomorrow, periods of snow will begin mid to late morning as a more energized clipper system transits the area. We’ll have cloudy skies and highs again in the mid 30’s. This time, low pressure will head to our north, allowing a warm front to give us some over-running snows before moving through with a reinforcing shot of cold air. There’s a slight chance, especially along the south shores of Brooklyn and Queens, that we could see a wetter variety of snow and/or some rain mixed in as precip comes to an end.

For this reason, I have held amounts down slightly along the shore. Warm front snows in this type of situation, are one of those things you’ll have to wait and see how things unfold as they unfold; so the line separating the 1″ possibility with the 2″ possibility, may shift north or south a few miles. Either way, this is a light snow event, and it shouldn’t effect the morning or evening rush.

On Wednesday, we’ll have one more day in which the temps are slightly above normal, with highs in the 40’s and sunny skies, but it’ll be breezy and feel colder than it is. Then the cold air moves in, with temps below normal for several days. Thursday through Sunday will be in the low to mid 30’s and and low 20’s at night.

After a cold shot of air, our eyes shift to Super Bowl weekend to watch a possible system that may bring a more robust chance of snow and/or rain into the area. We will keep an eye on this as we get closer, but the focus is on tomorrow’s quick burst of snow, and the cold air behind it. We’ll also be watching an increase in activity again in terms of systems down the road, similar in frequency to January; but how much cold air in place come mid-February will be the question.

Radar shows our first weak system slipping to our south, bringing some light snow with it. Most of it should stay to our south and we should just see a few scattered flakes in the air today.
