Long Range Shows Very Cold Air Invading Midwest
Good morning everyone. We have more rain sliding up the East Coast with our new system, and upon exit, this one will a cog in the wheel of our “slow grind” (as my mentor puts it) into deep winter. Step by step, we will gradually grow colder, then we will closely watch frigid air spilling into the upper Midwest and western Great Lakes region over the next 1-2 weeks.
The next step will be to see what type of systems we have throughout this period, and what may or may not open the door for the Northeast in terms of very cold and/or snowy conditions. At minimum though, we do know that areas of the upper Midwest and states bordering Lake Superior, Michigan, and Ontario, could get a taste of single digit and sub-zero temps as we go on.
This is winter folks, and it’s looking like many of the winters we saw in the 1980’s – big storms out west, late arrival of cold air, and rainy systems on the East Coast to start off the season. If it holds, then we may slip into the average of watching for big snow storms in late January and February. That basically sums up my childhood in the 80’s on the NY coast, and it’s looking very close to it right now.
Here is your rainy and gloomy local forecast –
SATELLITE
For today, expect on and off rain, heavy at times. For the most part, it’ll be light to moderate rain, but some areas may see 1-2″ of rain when all is said and done. This will equate to possible issues with small streams and rivers in NE PA, NW NJ, and the Lower Hudson Valley in NY. Highs today will be a mild low 50’s.
WEATHER RADAR
Mild conditions continue tomorrow with more 50-55 degree temps. We’ll have some AM rain, then clouds hang around for some scattered showers possible. Expect more scattered showers in Friday with highs near 50.
The weekend continues to look like a split, with AM showers on Saturday, then the chance of a few widely scattered showers throughout the day. It’ll be cooler with highs in the mid 40’s. Sunshine returns on Sunday with more mid 40’s, then we dip into the near 30/low 30 realm overnight for those celebrating outside.
