Wintry Weather Emerging on Some Weather Models

Wintry Weather Emerging on Some Weather Models

Good morning everyone. Our rainy system is in the Northeast and doing exactly what we were expecting it to do as far as creating some flooding issues, meandering about, and helping to setup the next phase in this slow grind towards a winter pattern.

We are watching everything very closely, and we start off rather tame for the New Year and into the first part of next week. That is when things start to become interesting as far as cold air, but we also add an extra feature as some models want to paint a snowy picture for parts of the Northeast next weekend. I’ll be the first to say that the scenario our GFS model is depicting, is very far-fetched in terms of playing out exactly like this. However, within models there are hints to be seen, and the hint that I’m getting is that while we may not get a snowstorm next weekend, the models want to create a snowstorm or snowy situation down the line.

This is part of what we begin to look for as the pattern changes and we start to get colder components within our systems. We’ll watch this feature very closely to see if the EURO model begins to agree with the GFS, or the GFS begins to drift towards the EURO. So far, the EURO wants to bring very cold air into the region via a quick-moving, reinforcing system out of the Great Lakes, with no Gulf moisture or energy to tap. The GFS has two systems merging off of the East Coast – the EURO piece coming out of the Great Lakes, and a wave of low pressure along the Gulf.

Let’s wait and see if this feature is still here tomorrow and onward. For now, here’s your local forecast –

SATELLITE

storm free

Don’t be surprised to see some quick blue patches this morning, especially on Long Island, but otherwise our big batch of departing rain is replaced with clouds and scattered drizzle/light rain. We’ll have highs in the low 50’s.

Clouds and scattered showers linger tomorrow with 50-55 degree temps.

WEATHER RADAR

Our weekend continues to look like a split decision, with clouds and scattered AM showers Saturday. We’ll be a touch cooler with highs in the upper 40’s.

Sunshine returns on Sunday with highs in the mid 40’s, then 30-35 degree temps overnight for party-goers.

storm free

Again, your workweek next week starts off very tame with sunshine and mid 40’s Monday – Wednesday.
