NYC Clouds Depart Early Long Range Questions Remain

Good morning everyone. We have some good news as far as clouds and a little early gift of some clearing. The doom & gloom of being socked in with the clouds till sometime tomorrow is a thing of the past as our system continues to fall apart a little fast than expected. This will bring a little bit of blue to our skies and a nice feel to go with our mild air today.

In the long range though, questions remain up and down the East Coast as we begin to watch our temporarily quiet pattern, become more active some time later in the workweek next week. Our next set of systems is set to move into he West Coast, bringing much needed rain and snow to their area after suffering from a 1-2 decade drought. One smaller system may brush the area with some rain and light snow in higher elevations Thursday or Friday, but what’s behind it is the real question.

Right now, weather models are all over the place. The GFS has the best idea in my opinion, but the picture keeps going on and off of the screen like a stealth fighter being tracked. It’s showing 2 pieces of energy, one coming out of Canada, and one developing along the Gulf Coast. It’ll be a race to the finish line to see who wins or if they phase together. As of this moment, the GFS has the Gulf winning out, with possibly heavy rain and some wind along the Mid Atlantic and Northeast coast. The Canadian model has cold air winning out, with arctic air moving into the region and suppressing that Gulf moisture down into the Southeast, then out to sea. The EURO last night looked like a rain-changing-to-snow-deal, but more by the way of a mundane front fueled by Gulf moisture and cold air behind it.

We will continue to watch it all, here is your local forecast –

WEATHER RADAR

Our weekend went from a split decision, to an absolute gem for this time of year. Look for sun and clouds tomorrow, with highs in the upper 40’s. We’ll have extra sunshine on Sunday, with highs in the low to mid 40’s for a cooler day. Overnight for party goers, lows will dip into the 30-35 range.

Monday through Wednesday looks supreme, with sunshine and highs in the low to mid 40’s. Clouds increase ahead of that smaller system on Thursday, but we will hold off for now on the detailed forecast. We will continue to watch what’s behind it, including some very cold air.
