Models Hold Onto Coastal Storm Idea
Good morning everyone. We continue to watch our weather models very closely in regards to several ingredients that may come together for someone on the East Coast next weekend. I say “someone” because while the models hold onto the idea of a Gulf or near-gulf sourced system, there have been big variations as far as who sees what (if anything at all).
Right now, the two main players are the GFS and EURO models. The GFS has been the most stubborn in terms of holding onto the idea of a coastal system somewhere; whereas the EURO comes and goes depending on the model. With the GFS holding into the idea, I feel as if the EURO will probably drift towards the GFS and give us a better picture of what to expect.
As of now, I believe the Gulf will be the main player in this, while our arctic system hangs back. However, if the Arctic piece of energy hangs back, the big question will be where high pressure sets up behind Thursday/Friday’s system. If high pressure arrives late, our system will scoot across the Southeast with some heavy rain and thunderstorms, then out to sea quickly. If high pressure follows our system in parallel fashion across the Great Lakes and keeps moving along with that system, it could bring a period of snow to the Mid-Atlantic; possibly including Washington DC. If high pressure sets up shop in Maine or Nova Scotia and refuses to budge, it may be just enough to bring it up the coast or at minimum, bring it up a little further. That would send some snow farther north and change the game.
We’ll keep an eye on it all, while not forgetting about Thursday’s system too. This could be the deciding factor on what goes on next weekend. Here is your local forecast –
SATELLITE
Expect sun & clouds today, breezy conditions, and the slight chance of a few scattered showers as on last arm of energy swings down from the north. Look for highs in the mid to upper 40’s.
Full sunshine returns tomorrow with low to mid 40’s as highs. We’ll have lighter winds and for part goers overnight, lows will dip into the 30-35 range; so bundle up!
WEATHER RADAR
Monday through Wednesday looks very tame, with more sunshine and highs in the low to mid 40’s. Clouds increase Wednesday night for Thursday’s system. We could see some light rain and/or light rain turning to a brief period of wet snow. For interior parts of the Northeast, specifically New England, there could be a period of light to moderate snow.
By the end of the week, colder air spills into the Northeast, and Friday/Friday night temps are expected to be below average at this moment.
