Morning Model Runs Show First True Snowmaker Still Viable

Good morning everyone. We’re going to keep things brief this morning for the holiday since not much has changed forecast-wise, and our morning model runs still show our first possible snowstorm of the season for somebody in the Mid-Atlantic and/or Northeast. There are a few minor things that I will point out, but again, not much has changed as far as the idea and what we need to look out for.

First and foremost, we enjoy a quiet 4 day stretch through Wednesday with sunshine and cool temps. The first piece of our winter puzzle will be a near-miss system expected Thursday and Friday for the Northeast. This is important because the “miss” will help pull down some cold air for Thursday night and into the weekend. At maximum, this one brushes the area with a cold light rain and possibly some light snow for parts of the Northeast and New England. Behind it is what counts, and we have to wait and see how everything sets up.

All we can discuss is the “now” and morning model runs show a more stubborn high behind Thursday’s system. As discussed yesterday, a more stubborn high pressure will keep things closer to the coast and nudge it up a little further north. The further now we go, the further north our band of snow goes. Also, the closer we nudge things into the coast, the more rain we introduce into the Mid-Atlantic and parts of the Northeast coast. It is too early to tell, but if models hold onto the idea of a coastal storm and cold air in place, we could be looking at the our first snowstorm of the winter season for parts of the Northeast, New England, and Mid-Atlantic. Stay tuned!

WEATHER RADAR

Tomorrow is a winner, with more sunshine and more mid 40’s. We hold onto those mid 40’s and sunshine through Wednesday, then we’ll see increasing clouds overnight Wednesday ahead of that system which develops too late and too far to our east.

Look for a mostly cloudy day on Thursday, with he slight chance of some cold light rain. Highs will only be in the low 40’s for a raw feel. Look for clearing skies and breezy conditions on Friday. Expect a cold one with highs in the mid to upper 30’s.
