Mild Weather Returns to NYC Monday
04/12/24 9:35am ET
Good morning everyone. We have a couple of features on the map of each coast, and very quiet in between. This is good news for the Midwest and South as they need a much needed break from the severe weather and heavy rain that’s been plaguing some of these areas since early winter.
Meanwhile, our large system continues to race into Canada via the Great Lakes, and that’ll give the NYC metro area one more round of showers and maybe a few rumbles. It also has some unseasonably cold/chilly air behind it, and that’ll create a headache tonight in western New York in regards to some heavy lake effect snows.
The entire thing pulls out tomorrow, leaving behind blustery conditions, but a new storm is ready to slam the West Coast as our active pattern continues. As rough as the West Coast has had it, it’s been a blessing in disguise as every single reservoir in California aside from 2, are higher than their historical average. Heavy rains and heavy snow continue to refill almost-depleted reservoirs and water tables, which will help the area during the dry season come summer.
Heavy snows and historic snow-packs will also help as the snow melt begins to send waters to rivers and streams that are either dried up or very weak. This will help replenish areas that are not-so fortunate at this moment, as we continue to see a big turnaround drought-wise in the Southwest and West Coast.
As far as severe weather is concerned, we do not see any risks reemerging in the Midwest until some time late Monday or early Tuesday. That’ll be caused by our West Coast system as it emerges from the Rockies and taps some of that Gulf moisture.
Here is your local NYC metro forecast –
SATELLITE
Look for more clouds and another round of rain today as spokes of energy turn around powerful low pressure in the Great Lakes region. We could also have a few rumbles of thunder in the heaviest showers. Highs today will be 60-65 with increasing winds.
WEATHER RADAR
We’ll have more clouds than sun tomorrow, and it’ll be blustery and cool. Highs in the 55-60 range. Look for a little bit of extra sunshine on Sunday, but we could see a scattered shower as milder air begins to set in. Highs in the mid to upper 60’s.
Monday and Tuesday look like absolute gems, with sunshine and 70-75 degree temps. We’ll hold onto that mild air on Wednesday, but that West Coast system begins to crawl our way with some rain.
