More Big Rains Then Arctic Blast Sets Up Snow Chance

More Big Rains Then Arctic Blast Sets Up Snow Chance

Good afternoon everyone. We have a lot going on in terms of lasting impacts from our previous system, more heavy rain coming in from a new big system, then we will have to contend with a formidable push of arctic air and what may precede it.

First and foremost, we have fairly nice day from the Georgia coast all the way up into the Northeast. Comfortable temperatures grace the area ahead of our new system, but we still have some lagging flooding issues in NJ, PA, and CT. That will not help the situation as we are expecting another batch of heavy rain heading into the area late tomorrow and into Saturday. Look for another 1-2″+ of rain on top of the rain and snowmelt we just had. This may be enough to give these areas another round of major flooding and road closures.

After we clear things out, expect temps on Sunday/Monday to dip to average for this time of season; then we begin to watch the push of some frigid air. Ahead of it, the leading edge could spark off a fast moving low pressure system that could bring a period of snow to areas of the Northeast and New England. Could this be the first one in almost 2 years for New York City? It may very well be, but we have to see where that low develops and where cold enough air is at that point. As far as I’m concerned, this is a better chance than our system last week, but it’s too early to go into amounts. That being said, unless something big develops, we are looking at a generally light to moderate event.

Once that system clears, all bets are off in terms of very cold to frigid air. Temps may not get out of the teens and 20’s for areas of the Northeast and New England on Wednesday, and you can expect things to get progressively colder. Friday night, we might even see widespread single digits and negative temps across a wide area of the Midwest, Ohio River Valley, and interior parts of the Northeast and New England.

Stay tuned for the latest, here is your local forecast –
