More Heavy Rain Today Accumulating Snow Possible Tuesday

Good morning everyone. We’re onto system number eleventeen and so far we’ve been unable to squeeze out some snow in the major metropolitan areas, but I think things are about to change after a rainy time today/tonight.

We’re watching our powerful system race off through the Great Lakes, bringing with it a trailing cold front that’ll help spark off more severe weather and wind-driven rain. Some of these areas don’t need anymore rain, and there are flooding concerns for parts of the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and New England. The severe weather component is going to move through today into this evening in the Mississippi Valley, then into the Southeast. While we’re not expecting the widespread outbreak of severe weather in scope and size we saw a few days ago, a thin squall line will still be able to produce a brief taste of heavy thunderstorms that could contain large hail and isolated tornadoes.

Once this system passes, we have out first push of seasonably cold air that’ll help set the stage for our arctic push. Ahead of that, we’re expecting a system to try and develop offshore and throw back an area of snow into parts of the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and New England. As of now, I think our low develops “too late” for the New York City area to see the heaviest of the snow, but I do believe the area is in line for having their first accumulating/measurable snowfall since 2 years ago. We will hold off on amounts to see how this is going to play out, however, the air is cold enough for snow. Even if our low pressure hugs the coast, there will be enough cold air to start off as snow and end as snow if there is mixed precip in between. As of now, central and upper New England could be the big winner snowfall-wise if low pressure gets cranking a few hours too late.

We’ll also watch closely for plummeting temps into the 15-20 degree range for overnight Tuesday, keeping and/or freezing anything that fell during the day.

Here is your local forecast –

We have beautiful start to our day, with fair skies and relatively comfortable temps. Sunshine will fade away as our system nears. Highs today in the mid to upper 40’s. Rain moves in tonight, and it’ll be heavy at times with a few rumbles of thunder. Wind increases as well, and we could see wind gusts to 50+ mph near the immediate shore.

WEATHER RADAR

Rain heads out early in the morning, with decreasing clouds and highs in the 50’s. That’ll happen early as winds whip around and temps drop through the 40’s before sunset. Wind continues on Sunday for a blustery day and highs in the mid to upper 30’s. Some energy left behind could spark off a few flurries or showers in the afternoon, especially for interior sections.

Monday is looking below average temp-wise, but typical for deep winter. We’ll have increasing clouds late with highs in the low 30’s. We begin watching our next system with the chance of light snow developing before sunrise Tuesday. As of now, light to moderate snow is expected with temps in the low to mid 30’s and dropping throughout the day.
