Morning Weather Models Show Weaker Faster System

Morning Weather Models Show Weaker Faster System

Good morning everyone. We continue to watch our weekend weather forecast and how our offshore system tomorrow will impact the bigger one coming up. Things continue to trend towards an even faster moving solution and a weaker one at that. We are still expecting a swath of accumulating snow to set up somewhere along I95 corridor, plus all of the joys of what a coastal storm would bring in terms of wind and enhanced tides; but it is a quick hit and then it’s gone.

Yesterday we talked about how our system will only be capable of so much in terms of snow due to its speed. The speed itself has not changed, but with our low possibly not getting as deep, it’ll cut down on accumulations further. If things continue to trend this way, what we thought would be a swath of 6-12″ snows, will become a swath of 4-8″ snows with locally higher amounts.

On a coastal standpoint, strength or lack thereof, impacts those looking for a snowy day. Without a stronger low, it’ll be more difficult to pull colder air into the system. This means if things hold steady, places such as NYC and Long Island are looking at cold rain, rain and mixed precip, or a rain-changing-to-snow type scenario as our system departs.

As of now, the best chance to see that 4-8″+ of snow will be across interior parts of the Mid-Atlantic west of Washington DC, areas NW of Philly, Northeast PA, Northwest NJ, and the Lower Hudson Valley of NY. We still have 3 more days to go, so we will leave the door open for some wiggle room in either direction in terms of who gets what and how much.
