NEW YORK CITY GLORIOUS MAY START

NEW YORK CITY GLORIOUS MAY START – Good morning everyone and happy May! Typically for our area, May is the “true” start to spring – warmer temps, flowers blooming, trees budding, and noses sneezing. After a rough winter and beginning of spring, Mother Nature will not disappoint this time around.

Spring kicks off today in perfect fashion, with above normal but pleasant temps. Expect sunny skies, light westerlies, and highs in the mid 70’s. Sun remains on full blast tomorrow, but we notch up the temps and even the humidity a bit tomorrow as light, southwest winds help juice things up; highs in the low to mid 80’s, cooler at the shore.

Thursday has the potential to be the warmest day out of this airmass, but we’ll have to wait and see if any clouds and popcorn showers/storms sneak in before we go for the big numbers. As of now, we should have highs in the mid 80’s, possibly some upper 80’s in spots. 90 might be a stretch now, but if we can squeeze out some extra sun before any clouds roll in, some of the notoriously hot spots (downtown Brooklyn, Central Queens, etc) might do it. (Cooler at the shore)

On Friday, our front begins to near with cooler air behind it. Depending on the timing, we should be able to achieve one more day of upper 70’s to low 80’s, but we’ll do so with more clouds than sun. Plus, we’ll have the chance of some showers and maybe a rumble of thunder in the afternoon.

Our weekend is still a question mark in my opinion. If things clear out on time, in theory we should have a breezy and mild Saturday with highs in the low to mid 70’s. However, I’m not making that call yet as we could have some lingering clouds around and maybe even a shower.

Out of all of the days, Sunday is the biggest question mark. While some services are calling for a sunny and pleasant day, I’m keeping an eye on some disturbed weather that could sneak in from the south/southwest. It’s one of those things that if it doesn’t materialize, we’ll have sun and near 70 temps. If it does materialize, we could have a gloomy, rainy day, and highs in the upper 50’s to low 60’s.

Stay tuned as we watch and it and enjoy the spring weather! After our brief break possible over the weekend, the warmth wants to return again.
