New York City Storm Discussion Plus Halloween Outlook

New York City Storm Discussion Plus Halloween Outlook

Good morning everyone. It looks as if the pieces of the puzzle are coming together as anticipated in regards to our next system. The one positive aspect is that this thing will be on the move and rain should be long gone for Sunday after a rainy Saturday. That’ll make for a dry, cool, but windy day for Sunday as that low wraps up in New England and the Canadian Maritime.

We’ll also be watching for that colder air behind it which will most likely result in frost and freeze watches all over the Northeast Monday – Wednesday night; and give the New York City/Long Island area their first chance at some frost Tuesday and Wednesday night. Best chance to see some frost locally, will be in the Pine Barrens of Long Island, and central parts of Nassau and Suffolk County. Regardless of the chillier nighttime temps, our daytime temps should be tolerable in the mid to upper 50 range.

As stated in the pervious forecasts, we are not done with the mild air yet, but this system changes the deck in the long range. Cool air will give way to a milder/mild stretch next Thursday into the following weekend (we may even see some 70’s), but that’s ahead of a deep-digging, stretched-out system that’ll bring a smorgasbord of weather conditions in the Midwest.

As of now, it looks if cold high pressure behind that system, could bring us a chilly Halloween depending on the timing of that system, when it passes, and how strong it is. Halloween in the NYC area is very schizophrenic in regards to what we see year to year. Sometimes it’s warm, sometimes it’s mild, and sometime it can unseasonably cold. This time, we could be looking at a relatively cold to cool one, but dry. We’ll be keeping an eye on it, but all signs point in this direction, just like they did on our upcoming system this weekend.

We have ourselves a really nice mid-October day today and tomorrow. Each day will feature more sunshine than clouds, with highs in the mid 60’s today. Tomorrow we go for 65-70 depending on your location. Best chance to see 70 will be interior Brooklyn, Queens, north shore of Nassau, and on the Jersey Side of NYC (Newark, Jersey City etc).

WEATHER RADAR

Clouds move in on Friday with the chance of some PM Showers. Highs will be in the low to mid 60’s. Rain continues overnight and becomes steadier as Saturday approaches. Expect a rain-out on Saturday, with stronger winds developing. We’re not expecting anything extreme, but it could be enough to blow some leaves off of the trees and take down some twigs/branches. Highs in the low 60’s at best.

Rain comes to an end overnight Saturday, then we’ll have decreasing clouds Sunday. Highs Sunday will be in the mid to upper 50’s and it’ll be breezy/windy. Winds will keep us from dropping too low Sunday night, with lows in the low 40’s. Away from the City, look for upper 30’s.

The real cool stuff and the frost/freeze watches, will happen overnight Monday – Wednesday as that wind calms down and our nights feature clearer skies. Well N&W of NYC, highs may drop into the mid to upper 20’s, while 35-40 degree temps will be felt in the NYC area. For Long Island, some areas Tuesday & Wednesday night could dip into the low to mid 30’s in spots.
