NYC AUTUMN WASHOUT TODAY THUNDERY TROPICAL TOMORROW

Good morning all. We have a sloppy, rainy day unfolding here in the NYC area; which will eventually give way to a one-off shot of tropical air and thunderstorms for some.

REGIONAL RADAR

Rain has spread over the area today, with the bulk of it going well to our north. However, we’re still on the southern fringe of that action as a wave riding along an old front transits the area; plus an approaching warm front which is the leading edge of our warm, tropical day tomorrow.

Look for rain, heavy at times today with highs 65-70. 70 might be a stretch, but lets see what happens. If we catch a break in the rain, we could go for it. Wind switches to the south tonight and we hold steady temp-wise as that warm airmass spreads over us.

For tomorrow, the tropical muggy goo returns for a 1 day show with all of the things that come along with it. Expect variable clouds, high dew points, and the chance of some strong to severe storms with the help of an arriving cold front. Highs a muggy near-80. As far as the storms are concerned, our cold front is sharp but stretched out. At this point I feel as of our like of storms will be narrow, with the potential of most of the energy going north and south of us. However, we may still get in on the action and some of that action could reach severe limits, so keep an eye to the sky and the radar. The primary threat will be heavy rain and strong, gusty winds.

After that front passes, it’ll help usher in a northerly flow and comfortable, seasonal weather. Expect clouds and sun on Thursday, with highs 65-70. Extra cloud cover returns for Friday as a reinforcing shot of seasonal weather swings in, slight chance of a shower, 65-70.

Sunny skies and a nice wind profile on Saturday will help notch us into the 70-75 degree range, then we’re back to normal on Sunday and Monday with 65-70 degree temps. In the long range, we’ll have to wait and see what-will-be Hurricane Rosa in the Pacific is going to do. What was looking like a very cool, fall-like forecast, might have to be modified if Rosa gets brought into the 4 Corners and sucked into Canada. That’s a good way to kink the jet stream and throw things off, so stay tuned and we will watch for the changes, if any.
