NYC BITTER COLD ARRIVES PRECEDING MAJOR STORM
NYC BITTER COLD ARRIVES PRECEDING MAJOR STORM – Good evening everyone! Snow has fully departed the area aside from some widely scattered flurries as frigid air begins to flood in with the help of a blustery NW wind. With mostly clear skies, temps will plummet into the mid to upper teens tonight. Skies will be sunny tomorrow, but it won’t help much as it will only make it to the upper 20’s to near 30. Sunday and Sunday night will be carbon copy, with clear skies, highs in the upper 20’s to 30, and lows in the mid to upper teens. On Monday, we’ll have sunny skies to start, then increasing clouds and highs in the low 30’s.
On Monday night, things get interesting. At this point, we know something major is brewing and it will affect us. The final say on what form it takes will be the track and timing. The latest GFS takes it a little further off the coast than the last run, but still close enough for a snow-to mix-to rain, and back to snow type situation. The EURO and other models take it further away from the coast and keeps it mainly snow for the NYC area. Either situation will have major impacts, as adding into the complications will be a full moon and possible near-hurricane force gusts along the coast. Also, it wouldn’t surprise me the least bit if blizzard warnings pop up in areas that will see an all snow event.
Please stay tuned as we hone in on the final track and timing of this system: plus, updates on possible accumulation amounts when we get a more realistic view on how this is going to unfold.
