NYC CHRISTMAS SNOWFLAKES LONGSHOT

NYC CHRISTMAS SNOWFLAKES LONGSHOT – Happy Hump-day everyone and welcome to “winter.”  As we close in on our special holiday weekend where Christmas and Hanukkah fall together, we continue to see long range patterns fall apart and leave us with more questions than answers. However, the immediate forecast is very simple, so let’s discuss. Almost every other day for us is becoming a transition day as weak systems continue to race across the Country. Today will be no different and we find ourselves in between systems, with sunny skies and highs in the mid 40’s. Tomorrow, two weak impulses move to our north and south, leaving us with cloudy skies and a very slight chance of a shower, highs again in the mid 40’s. On Friday, things clear out and the sun returns for a beautiful day and highs in the mid 40’s.

As I’ve discussed for a couple of weeks now and refused to back down, the threat remains for some snow flakes in the NYC area for our holiday weekend. Now that we are closer, we can pinpoint the timetable and Saturday early morning seems to be the window if we see anything at all. Another weak system will transit the NYC area, giving us the possibility of some wet snowflakes and rain after sunrise upon the onset of precipitation. As we warm up, any flakes that do mix in will disappear and give way to some on and off mostly light rain into the afternoon, highs in the mid 40’s. The sun returns for Christmas Day and we should see highs in the mid 40’s once again.

So basically, the theme for this week is mid 40’s and the continuation of the weak system parade. The long range continues to do exactly what I expected, not showing the ridge as powerful or the temps as warm. I will discuss in detail our long range into New Years on Saturday afternoon. The good news is that from this day on, we start getting more sunlight and “Meteorological Spring” is only a little more than 9 weeks away. 🙂

NYC CHRISTMAS SNOWFLAKES LONGSHOT – Longshot indeed as weak systems move across the area and no arctic air in the immediate future. However, stubborn cold air may give us a few flakes upon the onset of precip on Saturday early morning.
