NYC QUIET WEEK AHEAD

NYC QUIET WEEK AHEAD – Good evening everyone! Here’s some good news after a frigid blast and as we close in on a holiday weekend. Contrary to yesterday morning’s model run, we’re entering a fairly quiet period as we gear up for a pattern change late December. Tomorrow will be sunny and cold, highs in the mid to upper 30’s, but winds will be very light so it’ll feel warmer. On Wednesday, temperatures modify somewhat, with sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 40’s.

Wednesday night, clouds increase as a weak system approaches our area. However, the system will remain weak, with one piece of energy going north, one south, giving us a mostly cloudy but dry Thursday, highs again in the low to mid 40’s. Things clear out for Friday to give us a nice travel day for those hitting the road. Sunny skies both Friday and Saturday, highs in the mid to upper 40’s.

On Sunday, another system approaches the area, but it remains rather unimpressive for now, giving us a slight chance of rain and I still see a slight chance of some wet flakes on the end, but nothing to write home about. Things will clear out again for Monday, starting our trek towards unseasonably warm temps.

I still remain skeptical as to how warm things will become. As of now, I will remain conservative with short periods of mid 50’s here and there into the first week of January until I see these fronts making it well north of our area. Sometimes the models go too far and we end up with a warm front draped across the area, seeing drizzle and fog instead.

NYC QUIET WEEK AHEAD – Jet Stream is somewhat zonal (west to east) right now, which translates to fast moving/generally weak systems and temperatures at or slightly above normal in many areas.

NYC QUIET WEEK AHEAD – Satellite picture shows the old front clearing the area and a weak disturbance moving into the badlands out west. This will not be a big factor in our area other than some clouds.

NYC QUIET WEEK AHEAD – Northeast quadrant and local radar is very clear aside from some very localized lake effect and some showers in NC from our front yesterday.
