NYC CHRISTMAS WEATHER OUTLOOK
NYC CHRISTMAS WEATHER OUTLOOK – Good afternoon everyone and welcome to a special holiday edition of our long range outlook. There is lot’s to discuss, but first let’s talk about the immediate weather. A cold front associated with yesterday’s system is now starting to transit the area. Special marine warnings are up for the NJ shore due to a gust front ahead of some heavy showers. Not that it’s boating season, but a few hardcore fisherman may have been enticed with today’s warm shot of air to give it a try at some late season stripers, so please be careful out there and listen to any warnings that do come over. Expect some gusty showers and periods of steady rain for the next several hours. Temperatures will begin to plummet as the front passes the area, with lows tonight dipping down into the low to mid 20’s. This is an issue in itself because any wet roads will flash-freeze overnight, causing havoc for tomorrow mornings commute. Please give yourself some extra time when going to work tomorrow and be weary of areas of black ice.
NYC CHRISTMAS WEATHER OUTLOOK – The Satellite depicts our cold front moving into the NYC area. Some decent showers will give way to much colder air into the area, but it’ll be short lived. Tomorrow and Tuesday will be sunny and cold, with highs in the low 30’s tomorrow, lows in the mid 20’s; and mid 30’s Tuesday, lows in in the upper 20’s. Temps modify quickly and into the mid 40’s on Wednesday as we watch our next system approach the area. Clouds increase on Wednesday night, with a good shot at some steady rain on Thursday and into Thursday night, highs again in the mid 40’s and lows near 40. As of now, it doesn’t look as if there is much cold air behind this system, with sun and clouds on Friday and highs in the mid 40’s. Saturday, Christmas & Hanukkah eve day, looks to be the best day of the holiday weekend at this moment, with sunny skies and highs 45-50. On Christmas Day a weak system may approach the area, with some scattered light rain and drizzle possible, mid 40’s again. There is a chance depending on the timing of these two systems this week, we MAY see a touch of some very light snow or flurries during the onset or departure of precip, but as of now it looks as if it will be the cheapest of cheap thrills if it happens at all.
NYC CHRISTMAS WEEKEND OUTLOOK – After another cold day the Monday following Christmas Day, things become somewhat interesting. The train of systems will continue and we will continue to see an active period. However, many of our models are starting to agree that we flip back to a similar pattern of what we saw in November, with storms taking a more westerly and northern track; putting us in the warm sector of these systems throughout. This could open up the door for some near record breaking warm temps towards the end of December. I remain skeptical until we get closer, but if we do see this play out, mid 60’s to 70 degree temps for a 2 day stretch is not out of the question. Systems typically move quicker in the winter, so anything warm will be short-lived until we return to seasonable temps.
Northeast and local radar is active as we watch the approach of the cold front. Gusty showers are upon us and we will see scattered showers and a few periods of some steadier rain for the next several hours.
