NYC Clouds Break Up Today For Warm Day

NYC Clouds Break Up Today For Warm Day

Good morning everyone and welcome to another complicated forecast where models continue to diverge in regards to the tropics. Meanwhile, clouds, fog, and light rain continue to stick around, especially on the east end of Long Island. Things will break up and burn off, but we’ll get into that below.

As far as the tropics are concerned, Tropical Storm Franklin is nearing hurricane strength as winds have increased to 65-70mph sustained. I believe by the next bulletin or two, we should have a hurricane on our hands. As it goes in between the Carolinas and Bermuda before scooting out to sea, I do believe we will see it become a very formidable hurricane. At minimum, it will be the strongest tropical system of the Atlantic season so far.

We’re also watching that area of disturbed weather between the Yucatan and Cuba that’ll creep into the gulf and begin to gain some strength. The GFS and EURO continue to disagree on path and strength, with the GFS taking a tropical depression or weak/moderate tropical storm into the Panhandle of FL and into central GA. The EURO has a strong tropical storm or minimal Hurricane hitting the central/upper west coast of FL, then cursing across and riding the SE coast.

Both models bear watching as we could see something in between model-wise.

Locally, clouds will give way to blue breaks today and it’ll be a warm and humid one. Depending on when the clouds finally do give way, expect highs in the 80-85 range.

Tomorrow is a beautiful one, with sunshine and highs in the upper 70’s to near 80.

WEATHER RADAR

We start out with AM sunshine on Monday, then increasing clouds late. We could have the slight chance of a shower, but most if not all of the day, looks dry. Highs in the upper 70’s.

Clouds finish rolling in on Tuesday, and this will be the system that protects us against Hurricane Franklin. Look for mostly cloudy skies and the chance of a few showers. Highs in the mid to upper 70’s.

Wednesday looks about the same, with clouds and the slight chance of a few showers. Highs in the mid to upper 70’s.
