NYC Cold Air Moves In Temporarily But Snow Does Not

Good morning everyone. Cold air is beginning to move into the area, but it simply doesn’t last long enough to be anything newsworthy. It’ll be gone by the weekend, and Saturday & Sunday are looking very nice for this time of year.

SATELLITE

Overall, the forecast is very simple unlike our friends down in North Carolina. Look for clearing skies today, windy conditions, and highs in the low 40’s but dropping as cold air moves in. Winds could gust near 30mph in spots today, then begin to scale back at night. Lows overnight in the low to mid 20’s.

REGIONAL RADAR

storm free

Tomorrow we don’t recover much with highs will be in the low to mid 30’s with a steady WNW breeze, but no big gusts. Overnight tomorrow, we’ll see lows in the upper teens to low 20’s, and away from the city could see low to mid teens.

Enough cold air will filter down and suppress a moisture-laden system well to our south. Areas of North Carolina, especially NE NC, will see rain changing to snow. Places such as Raleigh may get an inch or two IF the snow begins to stick while the moisture is still plenty, otherwise look for it just on the trees and grass. The best chance to see several inches or maybe even more, will be areas such as Elizabeth City and NE parts of the coast.

Friday will be another cold one with sunny mid 30’s again, but cold air modifies already as we only dip into the mid to upper 20’s compared to teens the night before.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

storm free

Cold air is gone by the weekend, and we’ll enjoy sunny skies with mid to upper 40’s Saturday, then near 50 temps Sunday. It’s still winter and it’ll be chilly at night with low 30’s, but again, it could be much worse this time of year.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
storm free

We have nothing big on the horizon aside from some more big rain. Expect more rain possibly late Monday into Tuesday, then a quick shot of cold air moves in again; then modifying temps and more rain towards the first week of March with more short-lived cold air.
