NYC COLD CONTINUES WARMING TREND COULD SPARK FLURRY
Good morning everyone. Cold weather continues here in the New York City area where heavy frost was reported in spots, including my car. Meanwhile, a system-related warming trend might spark a scattered flurry ahead of the warmer air.
EASTERN SATELLITE
Clear skies and upper 30’s to near 40 continue. Light winds will keep things cool but comfortable. Tomorrow, we’ll have the sun with us one more day, but winds will become more steady. Highs in the upper 30’s to near 40 again, but that steady north breeze could make it feel like low to mid 30’s for most of the area.
REGIONAL RADAR
For Thursday, it’ll be cold again (mid to upper 30’s), but a dome of warmer air will be drifting our way. This is ahead of a broad system heading our way for Friday night and Saturday. In front of that warmer air, some overrunning may occur, helping to touch off a few scattered flurries in our area. Not everyone will see the “action” and most of it will be upstate, but don’t be surprised to see a flake or two fly past your face if you’re venturing out; especially in the late afternoon.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
Friday will be dry, but much “warmer”. Expect increasing clouds throughout the day, a few peeks of sun, and highs in the upper 40’s to near 50. Rain moves in for Friday night and will stick with us until late morning to early afternoon on Saturday. We could break 50 on Saturday, but it won’t feel like it with clouds and showers around.
Clouds will linger on Sunday with a few peaks of sun possible. We could also see a brief sprinkle Sunday as upper-air energy is slow to leave, then a sprinkle or flurry Sunday night; highs in the mid to upper 40’s.
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
To start the week, Monday looks slightly above normal temp-wise, then we slowly decline back towards normal mid-week next week. That being said, our pattern remains hostile towards snow and we could warm up again the weekend before Christmas (similar to this weekend) as most of our systems race well to our north and west.
Meanwhile, Christmas Day continues to look sunny, dry, and either seasonable or slightly below normal temp-wise.
