NYC First Call Labor Day Weekend Plus Long Range

Good morning everyone. We have a lot going on even though things are quiet up here in the Northeast for now. Tomorrow’s forecast remains very questionable and it’ll take some radar watching to figure out who’s going to get some downpours, then we begin to watch soon-to-be Hurricane Ida target the Gulf Coast. Hurricane Ida will have an impact on our weather up here, and we’ll discuss that below.

Today’s an easy one as hot weather continues. We’ll have sunny skies, then some PM puffy clouds and the slight chance of some thunderstorms lurking around. Look for highs in the near 90/low 90 realm again and humid.

WEATHER RADAR

Tomorrow remains very complicated as small waves of energy will drift around the area. I honestly can say where exactly the clusters of showers and storms will set up or drift, but we are focusing NYC westward and the north shore of Long Island. Once they form, we don’t know where they will drift, so this will require some radar watching tomorrow. There will be areas that see nothing, and others that may see some flash flooding due to slow movement. The best way to forecast this will be – expect cloudy skies, mid 70’s, and the chance of showers and storms at any time, especially in the morning. Once the radar lights up, we’ll have a better understanding on how the day will go.

Sunday we return to a more palatable forecast, with near 80 temps and clouds & sun.

In the medium range, Hurricane Ida is expected to make landfall somewhere along the Louisiana and/or Mississippi coast, then move inland. So far, it’s looking like Ida’s remnants will move along the Appalachian chain, then slide into the Northeast. This will give us a soaking rain some time between Wednesday and Thursday.

Behind it, I’m expecting the see the coolest weather we’ve seen in quite some time. We’re not going to go into highs and lows yet, but expect an early to mid-fall bite in the air, especially at night. This will most likely extend late into Labor Day weekend, with cool and dry conditions for the entire holiday weekend.
