NYC FORECAST ADJUSTMENTS

NYC FORECAST ADJUSTMENTS

Good morning everyone. It looks as if certain things are moving slightly faster in some aspects pattern-wise, but in the big picture, things are grinding down a bit in terms of speed overall for the Nation. This equates to some adjustments we have to make temp-wise and precip-wise. In the long range, it may also impact what our Labor Day Weekend looks like.

EASTERN SATELLITE

storm free

For today, clouds and sun reign for the NYC area and energy has remained slow to clear. Look for some of that low stratus and nimbostratus to give us the slight chance of some spotty showers and drizzle this afternoon as the sun works the atmosphere. Expect highs in the upper 70’s to near 80 in spots; plus some humidity will build back in with our NE wind going light.

REGIONAL RADAR

Tomorrow, the east winds and clouds remain due to a faster approaching warm front. This will most likely keep our temps from recovering into the 80’s tomorrow, and keep us in the upper 70’s to near 80 again with some mugginess. Also, we’ll have the slight chance of showers. Overnight tomorrow, we’ll have a decent shot at some nocturnal showers and loud rumbles of thunder.

For Wednesday, we’re back into the “slower”, with clouds hanging around and taking the oomph out of our approaching cold front. This will help keep temps “down” into the mid 80’s as opposed to upper 80’s, but high humidity and SSW winds will make it feel somewhat oppressive. With the cold front being weaker, thunderstorm action will be more scattered and/or a very thin line. Brief gusty winds and heavy rain will be the biggest threat for those who do see action.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

storm free

Thursday through Saturday we’re looking very sunny and comfortable. We’ll start off with near 80 temps and low humidity for Thursday, then a seasonable low 80’s for Friday and Saturday. Then on Sunday, it looks as if humidity begins to build up again and we go for mid 80’s, possibly upper 80’s, depending on the final wind profile/amount of sunshine.

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA

With everything delayed and our weekend not looking as hot, the chances actually increase for a late  very warm to hot exit to August. However, it also may take the prospects off the table for a very strong cold front before or during Labor Day Weekend. As of now, the end of August is possibly looking very warm and humid, with at least the beginning of Labor Day Weekend looking warm and humid as well.

Just like today, we will update you as the slide-rule slides back and forth. This is the time of year where things don’t pan out or big surprises occur due to the gears turning for the change of season. Forecasting right now is no different than trying to forecast during May or November with the latent heat and cold/pattern changes.
