NYC GLOOMY REPRIEVE AFTER FOUR MORE DAYS

Good morning everyone. Is the cup half full? Or half empty…That’s for you to decided as I see light at the end of this gloomy tunnel. Yes, we have to wait for it, but at least we can see it. The warmest of air misses today as expected, even though we’re much warmer than yesterday; and we have a shot at some real rain out of these clouds of the course of the next few days.

EASTERN SATELLITE

The gloom continues to hang over us, especially for this morning as patchy dense fog has been rolling in and out all night. Essentially, that’s the boundary of warm air trying to get in. We’ll have a “better” day than yesterday as we find ourselves on the milder side of things, but the 80’s stay to our southwest.

Everything hangs on the sun today and what it does. Do we see a few peeks? Do we get into an our or two of partly cloudy skies? Or do we stay socked in with the fog. I think the answer is “all of the above” since in a 25-50 miles swath from NYC eastward, parts off the area will have wildly different observations.

We’ll watch everything as it unfolds, but I think for NYC proper, we get into the upper 60’s to low 70’s; especially in parts of Staten Island, Manhattan, downtown Brooklyn, Bronx, and central Queens. Any extra sunshine and we could get into the 75 realm. More fog and gloom and we shave a few points off in the 60’s. It’s a tough one, but we’ll have to approach it delicately.

Long Island is probably lost as most of it will see 60’s, maybe even 50’s out east on the Forks.

Tomorrow, there’s no hope as the Swamp of Sadness definitely returns without a doubt. Maritime air pushes back hard and we’re in the upper 50’s to near 60 range. Between today and tomorrow, we’ll have the chance for a shower at any time, but I think the best chance of rain will be tomorrow night as a batch of steady rain moves through.

For the weekend, we play the game again on Saturday to see if we get a taste of milder air. As of now, look for a “cooler” repeat of today, with clouds hanging around, maybe some patchy fog, and upper 60’s to low 70’s.

More big rain moves in Saturday night into Sunday as we start to get this thing moving out. Of the two days, Sunday looks like the complete loss, but at least it’s over after that. We could also see some flood watches pop up for flooding in poor drainage areas.

Monday continues to look pretty solid as we clear out and dry out. Seasonal temps will resume and we could string together a few normal, dry, spring-like days. Let’s see how lucky we get and maybe keep things dry from Monday to late Thursday. If we can do that, we could also squeeze in an above average day in there temp-wise.

Either way, this sloth of a system will finally be gone and we can recover for a bit until the next one crawls our way.
