NYC HEAT WILL COLLAPSE EARLY UNDER NORTHEAST FLOW
NYC HEAT WILL COLLAPSE EARLY UNDER NORTHEAST FLOW – Good morning everyone and welcome to last hot day of our prolonged above average period of temps. In a little bit of a twist, we will find ourselves on the “wrong” side of a stationary front and our cool off won’t be as cleanly defined as previously expected. This will also translate into more precip tonight, and less precip for tomorrrow.
For today, we remain in the soup, with a partly cloudy start, then increasing clouds as a stationary front and a wave riding along it starts to sag down across the area. We’ll have a hot, humid day and highs in the upper 80’s to low 90’s. For tonight, we’ll have a decent shot at some showers and storms, especially by late evening. These storms may be capable of strong, gusty winds, and cause localized flooding in poor drainage areas.
The passage of this wave will also mean the stationary front will sag just to our south. This will give us a cooler, northeast flow as we wait to see if any waves riding along it throw some moisture our way. It’ll still be humid due to the close proximity of the front, but we’re only making it into a seasonable low 80’s tomorrow. We’ll also have a chance of a few periods of showers and storms tomorrow, but the best chance will be late evening as the front tries to drift back.
However, it doesn’t look like this happens and we just wallow in the boundary zone for Monday. A humid, northeast influence continues with highs in the low 80’s and a chance of scattered storms throughout the day and evening at anytime as we wait for everything to finally clear out. As stated in my live cast yesterday, this cool down would be piece-meal, but it’s an early peace meal and somewhat sloppy in a meteorological sense.
On Tuesday, everything is gone and we’ll be left with sun, low humidity, and temps 2-3° below normal through Thursday. On Thursday, clouds return though as warm air tries to fight back. With an approaching warm front, the chance of showers and storms increase again Thursday and Thursday night, then we’re back into mid to upper 80’s soup again for Friday.
In the long range, heat and humidity returns, but there are questions arising as to how long. Stay tuned.
