NYC HEAVY MORNING RAIN SHOWERY MUGGY AFTERNOON – Good early morning everyone. A batch of heavy, gusty rain is entering the NYC area as we speak; while energy remains parked along the east coast westward. The forecast remains complicated but doable as we break it down as it comes each day.

Expect heavy showers, gusty winds, and maybe even a few rumbles of thunder this morning. There will be localized flooding possible in poor drainage areas, especially areas such as the Belt Parkway, Jackie Robinson, and Major Deegan. Nothing is going on as we speak, but look out as these areas may become problematic from 7am onward. Look for highs a muggy low 80’s after this batch of energy passes, then a chance of a gusty shower or storm at any point of the day.

As stated yesterday, look for this pattern to continue for a while and we’ll take it day by day. For now, we are looking batches of rain to transit in and out of the area just like this morning. Then in between, muggy low to mid 80’s, and a chance of a shower or storm each day.

The one day we could see some very warm temps is Friday as the trough loosens it’s grip slightly. Depending on how much sun we get, we could see upper 80’s to near 90 with oppressive humidity. There is also the CHANCE we could see some drier air sneak in temporarily, giving us a rain-free and sunnier weekend with seasonable temps. More on that as week trek across this long and complicated week.

For the marine forecast, again, use common sense and stay away from the ocean. With gusty showers and storms popping up over the ocean first, then moving over land, you’re putting yourself in a dangerous position as sudden, localized conditions could capsize or damage your vessel. Stick in the bays, listen to NOAA radio, stay close to port, and use the apps on your smartphones to keep an eye on the radar.
